Arkansas paycheck calculator
Arkansas withholding pays no attention to filing status. Every employee gets the same standard deduction off the annualised wage and reads the same graduated schedule, and the personal answer the formula takes is the number of exemptions on Form AR4EC, each worth a fixed credit off the year's tax before that tax is divided back into pay periods.

How Arkansas withholding is worked out
Near the top of the schedule Arkansas claws back the benefit of its lower bands. Past a set income, the amount the formula subtracts from the top-rate figure gets smaller with every step of income, so for a stretch the state line climbs far faster than the rate on the rest suggests; the schedule below lists those steps one by one. The filing status chosen here moves the federal lines and leaves the Arkansas one alone. The wages the formula starts from leave out a 401(k) deferral and a cafeteria plan premium, because Arkansas has adopted the federal sections that exclude them.
These are withholding figures: what an employer takes out of one paycheck, which is not the same calculation as the one on an annual return.
Arkansas reads one schedule whatever the filing status. Wages are annualised first, so the figures below are annual.

Taken off the tax, not off the income.
The recapture the department prints above $94,700 is carried row for row, thirty rows of it: the adjustment starts at $369.90 over $94,701 to $94,800, falls by $10 for every $100 of income to $89.90 over $97,501 to $97,600, and stays at $79.90 from $97,601 upwards. Every row is one bracket, its base being the row floor at 3.7% less the printed adjustment, because the schedule has no other way to say the same thing. The lookup in step 2 is deliberately not modelled: below $100,001 the department reads the income at the $50 midrange of the surrounding $100 rather than at the figure itself, which is worth up to $50 of income at 3.7%, or $1.85 a year, and step 3 rounds the tax itself to the dollar afterwards. Near a recapture boundary the midrange can move the row instead of the cents, an income of $94,700 being read at $94,750 and so taking the adjustment of the row above, and that is worth the $10 by which two neighbouring rows differ. The document is also of two minds about where the rounding stops, step 2 saying $100,001 and its own worked example $97,701. The department published this formula on 29 May 2026, after HB 1001 cut the rate back to the start of the year; the formula it replaced was marked "Effective 01/01/2026" as well and withheld at 3.9%. This entry follows the law and applies 3.7% from 1 January, so a stub for a period paid before 29 May shows the tax as cut, not the 3.9% an employer withheld at the time. That is the owner's decision of 2026-10-28.
