Delaware paycheck calculator
Delaware lets an employer rely on the federal Form W-4, with the allowance count for Delaware written on it separately when it should differ from the federal one; a state worksheet, SD/W-4A, exists for working that count out. The arithmetic runs on the year's wage: a standard deduction set by filing status comes off, the graduated schedule gives the tax, and a fixed credit for each allowance is taken off that tax.

How Delaware withholding is worked out
A married employee filing jointly takes the larger standard deduction, while single filers and married people filing separately take the smaller one, and the credit for each allowance is the same whatever the status. The guide's worked examples cover single, joint and separate returns only, so a head of household is read on the single deduction here; that reading is ours rather than the state's. Where the employee furnishes no certificate at all, the regulations require withholding for a single person claiming nothing. Two things beside the state tax are left out of the figure here: Wilmington's wage tax, which the city charges on its residents and on anyone working there, and Delaware Paid Leave, whose employee share an employer may pass on in part, with a ceiling that depends on how many people it employs.
These are withholding figures: what an employer takes out of one paycheck, which is not the same calculation as the one on an annual return.
Delaware charges the same rates whatever the filing status, but the status still changes the amounts given below the table. Wages are annualised first, so the figures below are annual.
| Annual wages | Tax on the lower figure | Rate on the rest |
|---|---|---|
| $0.00 to $2,000.00 | $0.00 | 0% |

Taken off the tax, not off the income.
State tax only. Wilmington charges a wage tax of its own on residents and on anyone working in the city, withheld by the employer on top of this.
Delaware's newest rate table is the one effective 1 January 2025, still in force for 2026.
Withheld beside the income tax
- Delaware Paid Leave — up to 0.16% from 10 employees, and 0.4% from 25 employees, if your employer withholds it
- Delaware Paid Leave. The employer may pass on up to half of the contribution, and how much there is to pass on follows the size of the employer: fewer than 10 employees is outside the programme altogether, 10 to 24 covers parental leave only, and 25 or more covers parental, family caregiving and medical leave. The state sets the ceiling and the employer decides how much of it to take, so this calculator leaves the line out. The generator carries it once you say what your employer withholds.
